Senior Automation Engineer | Hertfordshire

Blackfield Associates are recruiting for a Senior Automation Engineer at a leading biopharmaceutical organisation to join the sites in Hertfordshire on a permanent basis.

Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager, you will provide Automation and Engineering support to all systems and projects that implement SCADA and/or MES solutions across the business. You will ensure that business objectives are supported by the MES platform, maintaining, managing and developing existing systems and be the SME and first point of contact for all automation process and procedure development.

The Senior Automation Engnieer will work as part of the site team taking responsibility for the day to day running of all Automation, SCADA and MES systems across the site. Ensure that business objectives are supported by the MES platform, including system updates, coordinating testing, user administration activities, and production readiness of the creation and maintenance of batch records. Designing control/SCADA systems including databases and database interfaces, data analytics & reporting. Work with IT, vendors, and internal end users to assess MES and SCADA system maintenance, updates and upgrades and the impact on the business and operations. Drive/participate in all MES and SCADA system implementation, testing and release to production of the changes.

In order to be considered for the role, candidates would need to be Bachelor of Science degree educated within Electrical Engineering or Computer Science/Engineering preferred or equivalent experience. Candidates will need strong knowledge of System Integration, SCADA and/or MES application development, a relevant background in in structured programming languages (SQL, VB, Python, HTML, Web API), experience working in a Pharmaceutical, biotech or other heavily regulated industry, control system (PLC) experience, Fluency in at least one of the following SCADA platforms: Ignition, Rockwell Automation, Siemens, Aveva (Wonderware) or GE.

Significant experience to set you aside from the competition includes, MES platform experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry, equipment validation lifecycle knowledge, project management experience, aseptic or clean room operation, familiarity with Siemens and Rockwell PLC’s, working with small/medium scale manufacturing and analytical equipment, clean room operations and strong Microsoft SQL database skills.
